RELATIVE PRONOUNS

Os pronomes relativos introduzem orações subordinadas (relative clauses).

WHO (que, quem) é usado quando o antecedente do pronome relativo for(em) pessoa(s).

• The girl who I saw worked as a baby sitter. (A menina que vi, trabalha como babá.)

• He is the man who sings very well. (Ele é o homem que canta muito bem.)

WHICH (que) é usado quando o antecedente do pronome relativo for coisa ou animal.

• The dog which is sick belongs to my aunt. (O cachorro que está doente pertence a minha tia.)

• This is book which I was reading yesterday. (Este é o livro que eu estava lendo ontem.)

THAT (que, quem) é usado quando o antecedente do pronome relativo for pessoa, coisa ou animal, ou seja, ele é utilizado para ambos os casos.

• The girl that I saw worked as a baby sitter. (A menina que vi, trabalha como babá.)

• The dog that is sick belongs to my aunt. (O cachorro que está doente pertence a minha tia.)
WHOM (que, quem) é usado quando o antecedente do pronome relativo for pessoa, quando a frase está no modo mais formal e quando procedido de palavra que não seja verbo.

• Robert is the doctor whom I told you. (Robert é o médico que te falei.)

WHOSE (cujo) é usado como pronome relativo quando no lugar de my, your, his, her, its, our e their.

• That’s the actor whose daughter suffered an accident. (Aquele é o ator cuja filha sofreu um acidente.)

• The house whose walls are green belongs to Peter. (A casa cujas paredes são verdes pertence ao Peter.)
